SGS Stroud has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where learning is fun and you’re sure to fit in. Our students are represented by our active student council. These are great ways to make sure your suggestions for improving college life are listened to and acted upon. You can also raise ideas and issues in your course team meetings, or directly with your tutor or learning mentor.
We believe in the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and offer a range of tasty, healthy food in our refectory. The college has an exciting range of sports opportunities, extra classes, trips, events and enrichment activities, and we encourage you to take advantage of these. We also offer the latest hair and beauty treatments at very competitive prices in our Envy Hair and Beauty Salon.
Our student union is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS) and supported by a member of our learner services team. Membership gives you the chance to make your own contribution to day-to-day life at the College, and there are a number of financial benefits of being a member.
Our learner services team are on hand to answer any questions you may have about your course, your future career, travel or money issues. The College chaplain visits once a week to provide support for all faith groups, and you can get free, confidential help and advice on personal or health issues from our visiting nurse or college counsellor, or from our online counselling service.
As a student of SGS Stroud you will be treated with dignity and respect, and we expect you to treat others the same. All staff at the College work hard to help our students achieve their personal challenges and career goals.
SGS Stroud is conveniently located next to Stratford Park and Stratford Park Leisure Centre. Facilities at the leisure centre include squash, tennis and badminton courts, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a fitness suite, toning tables, a health suite, an artificial turf pitch for outdoor football and hockey, a bistro and a bar.

Students at SGS Stroud can also join one of our sports academies.(hyperlink to sports academies) We welcome everyone, whatever your ability – you might like to try something new, or develop your skills in a favourite sport.
The benefits of academy membership include discounts at local gyms, the chance to play for county teams, a personalised fitness programme and a minimum four hours of quality coaching each week.
We currently have sports academies in men’s and women’s football, and men’s rugby, though many new academies will be starting in September 2014/2015, so watch this space.
SGS Stroud School of Art
SGS Stroud School of Art is one of the best art schools in the country, with excellent facilities, experienced and passionate teaching staff, and a wide variety of courses available for students with a talent for art and design.
Over the years, SGS Stroud School of Art has developed an outstanding reputation for producing talented students – many of whom go on to study at the country’s top universities – and we are now firmly established as one of the top providers of art and design in the UK.
Our excellence in this area has been recognised in past Ofsted inspections, where we have been praised for our outstanding provision.
Facilities at SGS Stroud School of Art include professional studios, workshops, design suites, specialist ceramics studios, and an outstanding photography studio with a spacious darkroom. Our end of year shows receive national recognition.
Learning resource centre
Our state-of-the-art learning resource centre combines traditional library services with outstanding IT facilities, such as the latest software and internet access on all networked computers, scanners, black and white and colour printing, and a colour photocopier.

SGS Stroud provides specialist workshops and facilities for the main construction trades – brickwork, carpentry, electrical installation and plumbing. Modern classrooms and IT facilities provide a link between the practical and theoretical aspects of the industry, making it easy for you to develop new skills and learn your chosen trade.
Learn IT Centre
Our modern Learn IT centre provides an opportunity for anyone who wants to study IT to do so at a time that suits them. Students can work at their own pace in a comfortable and friendly environment, and our experienced staff are always on hand to provide expert guidance.
The Learn IT centre is equipped with the latest computers and software, and offers a wide range of courses to suit everyone. You can enrol at any time throughout the year, and study when it suits you.
Envy Hair and Beauty Salon
Our state-of-the-art commercial salon gives our hair and beauty students the chance to try out their skills on paying customers, and to gain valuable experience, all under the supervision of our expert staff.
Techniques you can learn range from nail extensions, pedicures and hair styling to waxing, massage and facials.

Refreshments at SGS Stroud
Our vibrant and welcoming refectory is the perfect place to meet up with friends, grab a bite to eat, or go online in our internet café.
The refectory sells a range of reasonably priced and healthy hot and cold meals and snacks, freshly made sandwiches and rolls, homemade cakes and biscuits, and hot and cold drinks.

Throughout the year we hold advice and enrolment events to help you make the right choices about your education and future career. Our friendly, experienced staff can advise on part-time and full-time courses, and higher education.
These informal open evenings give you the chance to meet the tutors, get information on courses and careers, and experience our state-of-the-art facilities and friendly, welcoming atmosphere for yourself.

We haven’t been inspected by Ofsted since Stroud College and Filton College merged in February 2012 to become South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.
Until we’re inspected as SGS, you can use the link below to download Stroud College’s latest Ofsted report, from 2009. It just happens to be our best ever result. Filton College were inspected in 2008 and also received good grades, with some outstanding departments and features.

At SGS Stroud, our success rates continue to improve. Achievement rates on full-time courses for both 16 to 18-year-olds and adults exceed the national average, and our retention rates are high and continue to improve. This means that more of our students complete their course and achieve their qualifications than the national average.

How to find us
SGS Stroud is conveniently located within easy walking distance of Stroud town centre, and within easy reach of Gloucester, Cheltenham and most local towns and villages.
There are lots of ways you can travel to our Stroud campus:
A number of public bus services operate to Stroud from most neighbouring towns and villages. Our learner services team can provide you with information on the services available.
Car and motorbike
There is a large, free car park for the use of students and staff who choose to drive to college.
Stroud has a number of cycle paths, making it relatively easy to get to our Stroud campus by bike. We also have a cycle parking area for students to use.
Regular trains to and from Gloucester, Cheltenham, and Cam and Dursley are available from Stroud railway station. The station is within walking distance of our Stroud campus.
