This Foundation Degree covers media make-up artistry and special effects design for television, film & theatre. This course is designed to enable students to learn and demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to progress into industry.

Delivered by industry experienced tutors you will explore units such as Advanced Media Makeup techniques for TV, Film & Theatre; Postiche and Hair Design, Prosthetics and Special Effects; Contextual Studies; Art and Digital Media, Project Research and Development; Portfolio Building and Freelance Business Studies. You will also engage in additional activities from work experience to educational trips and an industry showcase.

Aspects of Study:

  • Media Make-up – Fundamentals to Advanced Make-up techniques for TV, Film & Theatre.
  • Postiche and Hair Design – Historical to contemporary design and application.
  • Fashion and Photographic – Editorial and Fashion design and application.
  • Body Art design – Image creation.
  • Prosthetics and Special Effects – Prosthetic design and application, model making and creative practices.
  • Art and Digital Media Studies – Art and visual communication studies, designing for image creation, photographic and digital applications relating to media industry.
  • Portfolio Building and Freelance Business Practices – Professional portfolio and business development.

Entry requirements

All students are required to present a portfolio (digital and paper-based) and attend an interview for entry to this programme.

Applicants must apply via UCAS and should have 160 UCAS points from the volume and depth of A levels or equivalent.

Students are expected to have a GCSE Grade C pass or equivalent in English and Maths. Mature students (students aged over 21) will be considered on an individual basis.
