Computer jobs are forecast to grow almost twice the UK average. The effective use of computer technology can transform a business, providing innovative and valuable solutions. To be a part of this industry, you will need robust computing skills. At SGS, through taught lessons and practical classes, we deliver a programme of study to provide the technical skills and underlying theory for you to become part of this growing profession. The course offers students good knowledge in computing principals, with particular reference to the analysis, design and implementation of computer applications in a business context.
The course is designed to enable learners to develop system design skills and programming skills appropriate to business. For example, .NET, PHP and SQL. Having a greater understanding of Information Systems will really give you the edge in whatever line of work you are in or want to pursue. This qualification is the equivalent of the first 2 years of a degree and you will have the opportunity to top up at a university of your choice.
What will I study?

Project design, implementation and evaluation*+

Computer games design and development
Programming in .NET

*Compulsory units which must be completed by all students on the HNC pathway
+Compulsory units which must be completed by all students on the HND pathway.
Work experience will be required during the course. Ideally at an IT firm for 30 hours over the duration of the first year, with another 30 hours during the second year.
What do I need to join?
Students must be aged 18 and above, with 56 UCAS points in an appropriate subject or a BTEC Diploma for IT Practitioners. Students should have GCSE Maths and English Language at grade 4 (grade C) and above. Prior learning achievements will be considered and mature applicants with appropriate professional experience may be accepted at our discretion.
