Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling - Level 5

Part time course

Entry Requirements: Level 4 diploma or equivalent

This is a 20 week post-qualification course for qualified practitioners.

We will be looking at working more effectively with clients using various theoretical orientations with the emphasis on more understanding of working with the relationship and how Cognitive, Emotional, and Behavioural methods could apply within the two main relationship models. (real and transferential).

Qualification structure

1 mandatory unit:
Counselling in independent practice

Target candidates

This qualification is intended for candidates who have acquired the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or its RPL (prior learning) equivalent
and wish to continue to develop their understanding and skills in order to:

  • establish and maintain an appropriate framework for independent practice;
  • practice as a senior counsellor within an agency;
  • develop their proficiency to work with clients at CPCAB Service Level B2.
  • deepen their ability to work with the counselling relationship;
  • develop their proficiency in one particular counselling approach;
  • facilitate understanding of working in health settings;
  • carry out client assessments (including identifying and referring clients with severe and complex mental health problems).

We will look at working in the long term and short term and the different set of skills, techniques and issues that arise.

We will also:

  • Up-date on the current accreditation and registration process to meet any future government registration for counsellors.
  • Up-date on legal issues and ethical issues current to our practice.
  • Look at building a working practice and setting up an effective business
