This two year degree is awarded by the University of Gloucestershire and is delivered in partnership with SGS College. This is a new programme and offers students an exciting opportunity to study an Art & Design specialism in Graphic Design while also preparing for a potential role in the wider creative industries. Students are increasingly encouraged to look outwards from their chosen graphic design specialism, developing their understanding of the wider contexts of their practice. This promotes the development of an informed point of view to support an individual approach to practical work.
Admission to the course is on the basis of interview and a satisfactory portfolio of recent work. It is expected that applicants will normally have one of the following: 2 A levels (including Art or Photography); Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art & Design or Photography; BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design or Photography. Students are required to have studied to GCSE (or equivalent) level in English Language. Consideration will be given to students with life experience based on presentation of portfolio and their experience.
This Course is suitable for those wishing to develop their technical and creative skills in preparation for a career within the graphic design industry.
In addition to the shared modules, Graphics students study modules which will cover areas including: Corporate Identity; Typographic Skills; Working in a Digital Environment; Editorial Design.
Through a range of creative assignments integrated within the modules, you will have the opportunity to develop a portfolio which will support job applications within the graphic design industries. Students will be encouraged to undertake a work placement during year 2 of the course.
There is a comprehensive programme of visits.
It is expected that students from this course will be suitably prepared for entry to employment within the creative industries. On successful completion of the foundation degree, students may continue to study for the full BA Hons at a University of their choice.
Points accepted: 64 points required from qualifications with the volume and depth of A level or equivalent.
