Level 2 Engineering
Full time course
At our new, purpose built Berkeley campus, this Level 2 programme covers a broad range of engineering disciplines. Students will be working in a modern engineering environment and learning skills in a range of areas, including workshop skills, CAD and electronics. Theory classes will develop learners’ knowledge of the engineering industry, key engineering principles and techniques. All learners will develop key skills in numeracy, communication and ICT.
What will I study?
Students will be working in a modern workshop environment and will be learning skills in a range of areas, including turning, milling, CNC and CAD. Theory classes will develop learners' knowledge of engineering environment awareness, techniques and principles.All learners will develop key skills in numeracy, communication and ICT.
Maths & English
A key requirement to obtaining many jobs is achieving a good standard of English and Maths. Therefore, learners that do not yet have a GCSE grade 4 (grade C) in these subjects will be enrolled on either GCSE or Functional Skills programmes alongside the main study programme.
In conjunction with obtaining a trade qualification and practical experience, learners will also develop other skills, such as interview techniques and CV writing, to prepare them for the world of work.
All learners will undertake a minimum of a week of work experience as part of the course.
What do i need to join?
You will be required to attend an interview and undertake a skills test. You will also need to take an initial assessment in maths and English to ensure that learners are capable of progressing on the course. You will need three GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D) or above, including English and maths.
How long is the course?
1 year, with attendance required for 3 days a week, which includes enrichment, work experience and tutorial days.
How will I learn?
Practical experience will be gained in the modern workshop through practical activities and assessments. The underpinning theory will be delivered in the classroom and IT suites, where study will be interactive and informative.
How will I know how I am doing?
Targets will be set and agreed with your tutor and you will receive regular feedback and one-to-one reviews to ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals.
Are there any extra costs?
Material fees will be required on enrolment. Financial support is available in certain circumstances.

There are many different specialist roles within the industry. This course provides an excellent foundation upon which to build a career within the engineering industry.
