This BA (Hons) Drama and Performance extends and consolidates students' critical understanding of their chosen discipline through practical performance modules. The degree will focus on personal, professional and transferable skills that will equip students for a career in the rapidly evolving environment of theatrical performance. The degree is delivered at the South West Academy of Dramatic Arts which has excellent facilities including the 250 seat Olympus theatre, the Loft studio theatre, 4 dance studios, acting studios and technical workshops. It is only a 10 minute walk from Parkway Railway Station and is only a few miles from both the M4 and M5.

The degree is taught by a professional course team, all of whom are or have been active in the industry. It aims to provide the student with excellent practical performance skills and it will develop the self-confidence, motivation and communication required to thrive in an increasingly competitive industry.

Modules include:-

  • Directing
  • Touring theatre
  • New Experimental Theatre
  • Solo Performer
  • Practical Research Project

The course addresses the study of contemporary performance via a focus on the interrelated nature of theory and practice. Practical explorations and related performance tasks provide context for the acquisition of critical and analytical skills. This is supplemented by a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and the required reading for these modules. Assessment is carried out through essays, reflective journals, viva voce, presentations, dissertation, practical examinations and performance in full scale productions.

On completion of the degree students can continue onto post-graduate studies at the University of Gloucestershire or another University of their choice.
