A cross-government strategy is trying to tackle head on the flat lining levels of sport participation and high levels of inactivity in the country. Through its strategy, the government is redefining what success in the sport means, with a new focus of five key outcomes. These are physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, individual development, social and community development and economic development. This exciting new degree has been designed to target these areas.
Modules could include the following:-
Teaching and Coaching in Schools
Foundations of Physical Education and Physical Activity
Pedagogy of Physical Activity
Movement Literacy and Games (practical)
Work Placement (fitness and teaching)
Exercise for Fitness (health or special populations)
Physical Activity and the Human Body
Psychology of Fitness and Physical Activity
Students will be fully integrated within our sports departments and work with high performance athletes, within excellent facilities. Students have the opportunity to develop their teaching abilities, knowledge and experience of curriculum activities. Engagements in real-world experience is integral to this programme and students, will have opportunities to conduct research in schools and sport environments.

All our staff have practiced in the field and are experienced teachers. Teaching is delivered via a combination of practical and theoretical teaching methods, equipping students with a set of transferable skills to give a substantial career advantage.
Students have to be aged 18 or over 56 UCAS points (from new tariff) Maths, Science and English GCSE at grade C or above.
Mature students are welcome to apply and will be assessed on an individual basis.
