Level 3, Advanced Apprenticeship Engineering (Mechanical & Manufacturing)

Course Description
The Advanced Apprenticeship Engineering framework is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in mechanical manufacturing engineering. You will need to be employed in a relevant role and have the support of your employer. Once completed you will be qualified to work in a variety of engineering roles and have the opportunity to progress to higher education.

What will I study?
• L3 NVQ Diploma in mechanical manufacturing engineering to include:
- Statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Using and interpreting drawings and documents
- Working efficiently and effectively
- Optional units can be chosen within: machining, CNC machining, tool setting, fitting and assembly, mechanical overhaul and testing

• L3 Technical Certificate Diploma in mechanical engineering technology

• Employment rights and responsibilities

• Functional skills - English, Maths and IT

What do I need to join?
5 GCSEs at Grade C including Maths, English and Science.

How long is the course?
3 years.

How will I learn?
You will need to be employed as much of the learning will take place in the workplace. You will attend college 2 days a week and will have assessments in the workplace.

How will I know how I am doing?
You will get regular feedback from a training advisor. You will have a three-monthly review meeting with your employer as well as continual feedback on assignments and exams from course tutors.

Are there any extra costs?
If you are aged 16-18 there are no fees to pay. If you are aged 19 or over your employer may be asked to make a contribution towards the cost of your award.

What can I do next?
Progress to Higher Education (a foundation degree or HNC / HND) in Engineering.
