Course Description
The computer games industry is one of the largest in the worldwide creative sector with exceptional job opportunities, and Britain is a market leader. Whether it’s because you want to go into the games industry or into the computer generated arts career path, this BTEC Level 3 qualification is the one for you. The computer games industry employs people with skills in computer-based animation and art and special effects, and this course will give you a grounding in the core skills to take you forward with your chosen profession. Instead of just buying games, start making a career in something that you enjoy doing!

What will I study?
Year 1: Concept Art, Digital Graphics, 3D Modelling, 3D Environments, 2D Games Design, Computer Games History, Computer Games Industry.

Year 2: 3D Animation, Object Orientated Design, 3D Computer Games, Project Management, Critical Analysis,
Employability, Small Business.

What do I need to join?

You need four GCSEs at grade C and above, or a BTEC First Diploma at Merit level. We also prefer to see a portfolio of art and design work at interview as this is a creative course. If you do not have a grade C or above at GCSE English or Maths then you will study these as functional skills at College.

How long is the course?
2 years, up to 4 days a week depending on the timetable.

How will I learn?
With the support and guidance of tutors in theoretical and practical projects. There will be presentations, group work, industry visits and talks from visiting lecturers.

How will I know how I am doing?
We give you regular feedback through online and 1-1 tutorials and in class discussion.

Are there any extra costs?
Materials fees and, on occasion, we may charge extra to cover coach costs, ranging between £2 and £12 two to three times in a year.

What can I do next?
You may want to progress to our outstanding BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art & Design or go straight to
University. Alternatively you may wish to seek employment in the games industry.

What are my career opportunities?
Internships, self-employment or employment within the computer games industry. Communication, confidence, creative thinking and teamwork are all skills developed on the course that are transferable to a broad range of employment opportunities.
