Course Description
This programme is for people who are working in the construction industry and want to gain industry-recognised qualifications in bench joinery or site carpentry. Training will take place in the workplace and at college.
What will I study?
• L2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (bench joinery/site carpentry) to include:
- General workplace safety
- Efficient working practices
- Moving and handling
- First and second fixings
- Setting up, marking out and production
- Erect carcassing
• L2 Technical CertificateDiploma in Wood Occupations (bench joinery/site carpentry)
• Employment rights and responsibilities
• Functional skills - English and Maths
What do I need to join?
A good standard of general education (generally 3 GCSEs at grades D or above) or by
interview.
How long is the course?
2 years. You work with your employer and will attend college for agreed block
weeks throughout the year.
How will I learn?
In the workplace and at college through practical activities and in the classroom and IT suites where study will be interactive and informative.
How will I know how I am doing?
The apprenticeship is undertaken both in college and in the workplace through practical work and assignments. A training advisor will complete regular reviews with you and your employer.
Are there any extra costs?
If you are aged 16-18 there are no fees to pay. If you are aged 19 or over your employer may be asked to make a contribution towards the cost of your award. Employers may be eligible for additional training grants to support you and your apprenticeship.
