Access to Higher Education in Combined Studies

Course Description
Adults returning to education who want to gain access to university will find this course to be the beginning of their new career. The course will give you plenty of experience of a wide range of subjects, something that is valuable as students get back into education after a period of time away.

What will I study?
You will have the potential to explore psychology and sociology, counselling and a range of other subjects alongside the more traditional Maths, English and science subjects that you may have studied previously.

What do I need to join?
There are no formal qualifications required for you to join this course. However an interview is required, at which your suitability will be assessed through discussion and screening tests. These will help us understand how we can best support you as you attend the course.

How long is the course?
1 Year full time (approximately 4 days per week). Classes will be timetabled wherever possible between 9.30am and 2.30pm to take into account childcare issues some people may have.

How will I learn?
Classroom study will be used to teach you in an informative and interactive way. The course will be assessed through a range of differing assignments collated into a course portfolio. The great majority of the assessments will be coursework-based, with some exam and practical project work.

How will I know how I am doing?
Assessment is continuous, consisting of coursework, portfolio building and regular one-to-one time with a personal tutor.

Are there any extra costs?
Alongside the fee for the course, material fees will be required at enrolment. Please note that financial support is available in certain circumstances.

What can I do next?
There are other courses at Foundation Degree Level at Stroud College including Child Care and Art. The Access qualification is accepted for entry onto these courses. You can of course move on to other colleges and universities to complete further qualifications as the next step in your career.

Typically this course leads to further study on academic or vocational courses at a university level.

When will I attend?

1 year full-time (4 days per week).  Classes are timetabled between 10.00am and 3.00pm to take into account childcare responsibilities.Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
