The Certificate in Lifelong Learning Skills is designed to develop teaching skills in Further Education.

Unit 1 Planning and Enabling Learning This unit addresses different types of assessment; issues surrounding inclusive learning and ways of meeting the needs of individuals; developing lesson plans; embedding core skills in specialist subjects; develop a range of communication skills; understand the minimum core specifications in teaching; understand how reflection and evaluation can be used to develop teaching skills. Assessment of unit: In week four an assignment based upon the planning and delivery of teaching sessions within a scheme of work will be given. The assignment is 3,000 words and will be collected in week 10.

Unit 2 - Principles and practice of Assessment This unit is an in depth study of the role of assessment. It draws upon a variety of teaching contexts to highlight the way in which assessment is used. The topics covered are: understand key concepts of assessment; how to use different types of assessments; evaluate the strengths and limitations of a range of assessment methods; the role of questioning and feedback in assessment; how to monitor and record progress and how to evaluate one"s own teaching. Assessment of unit: this unit is assessed by individual presentations on the theme of learning theorists and overcoming difficulties in learning. Feedback will be from the tutor and other members of the group.

Unit 3 - Specialist teaching and delivery techniques. This unit develops understanding of a range of delivery techniques and covers the following areas: identify and analyse a range of delivery techniques; how to develop inclusive specialist teaching; use a range of techniques and resources to support specialist teaching; how to evaluate the specialist teaching. Assessment of unit: This is a presentation on your own specialist field, which may include demonstration lessons and practical activities |

MINIMUM CORE
In addition to the above, a minimum core requirement in key skills is needed. Literacy, numeracy and ICT skills will be developed during the course and there is an emphasis on good communication skills as an essential part of improving teaching.

Portfolio of evidence to provide examples necessary to meet assessment criteria in each area. This will be marked and externally moderated. Feedback will be given at points in the course via tutorials and portfolio marking to ensure that all criteria have been met.There are three assignments.Assignment 1: A written assignment on planning and evaluating own teaching. It includes elements from the Planning and Enabling learning unit.Assignment 2: A presentation on a topic linked to helping learners overcome difficulties. It includes opportunities for self assessment and peer observation and feedback.Assignment 3: Case study from your own specialist area.In addition there will be two formal teaching observations from the course tutor and one from the line manager in your work place.
