Applying to South Gloucestershire and Stroud College couldn't be easier. There are a number of ways you can apply for your chosen course – these are explained below. If you need any help, please call 0800 0567 253.
The entry requirements for each course are listed in the course information section of our prospectus. Mature students without the necessary qualifications may be accepted depending on their previous experience, and subject to a satisfactory interview.
You need to state the qualifications you've already achieved, and the exams you will be sitting, on the application form.
We recommend that you apply for your course as early as possible, as some popular courses fill up quickly.
1. Attend a College Open Event
Before you apply you may like to attend one of our open events. These give you the chance to meet the tutors, get information on courses and careers, and experience our state-of-the-art facilities and friendly, dynamic atmosphere for yourself. [Dates and times of forthcoming open events]
Once you're happy you've chosen the right course, you need to apply. You can either do this online, by selecting 'apply online' next to the description of your course, or by downloading and printing an application form. Once you've completed the form, you should post it to:
The Registry Team
SGS Stroud Campus
South Gloucestershire and Stroud College
Stratford Road, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 4AH
If you need any help completing your application, please call either 01453 761225, 01453 761165 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Within two to four weeks of receiving your application, we will invite you for an interview, unless you have applied online and chosen your interview date upfront.
You're welcome to bring a parent or guardian with you. The interview will enable you to:
Discuss the course
Find out more about the college and facilities
Discuss your interests and career plans
We start interviewing in late October/November for courses starting in September. Sessions are available until early July.
We will offer you a place on a course, which may be conditional on you meeting certain entry qualifications, attending a taster day etc, but these will be discussed with you at interview.
You will receive written confirmation of your offer from our registry team. We will also advise if you have not been successful, and the next steps you should take.
6. Taster Day
Some course areas will invite you to attend a taster day at the College. These usually take place in May, June or July, and give you the chance to meet your tutor and other students on your course, and to take part in some course-related activities. Taster days give us the chance to assess your learning style, and enable you to decide whether you've chosen the right course.
We may ask your school for a reference, to identify any support you need. We use this in conjunction with your interview, taster day and exam results to ensure we offer you a place on the right course.
8. Exam Results
We will use your exam results in conjunction with the outcome of your interview, taster day and, occasionally, the reference from your school, to ensure we place you on the course that's right for you. Please don't worry if you don't get the results you expected – there will be a suitable course for you.
9. Joining Instructions
In June we will write to you with joining instructions, telling you when you need to come in to college for induction and enrolment week.
11. Induction & Enrolment
Induction and enrolment week takes place towards the end of August or at the start of September, depending on your chosen course and campus. This event aims to introduce you to the college, your tutor, and other students on your course. You will also complete your formal enrolment onto your course.
12. What if my plans change?
If you change your mind, or your circumstances change, our advice and guidance staff and tutors will be happy to discuss your options with you, and we may be able to find you a place on an alternative course. If your exam results aren't what you expected, don't panic – staff will be happy to help.
