Increased Flexibility - Elected Home Educated

Increased Flexibility Placements

Since September 2014 the government has agreed that Elected Home Educated (EHE) young people of Key Stage 4 age can also apply for an Increased Flexibility Placement. If accepted onto a course, the student will be funded by the Education Funding Agency providing that the student puts in good attendance. The college will only consider EHE students who have been out of education for at least 6 months.

These are designed for students who would be the equivalent of Years 10 or 11 and they are for 2 hours a week as follows:

All of the above IF courses are taught at SGS Filton

Many students who start on these courses in Year 10, progress onto an ECP course in Year 11

What happens next?

  1. After an application has been received, a parent/carer and the student will be invited into SGS College for an initial visit and interview (if they have not visited the college previously)
  2. If the student is successful and accepted onto their chosen course the parents/carers will receive a letter from the 14-16 Manager outlining the joining instructions.

College's expectations on the course

College requirements for Increased Flexibility Placement students are:

  • Attend all classes on the timetable on time
  • Complete all work set to the best of their ability
  • Behave in a sensible, appropriate manner with everyone at College, in line with the Learner Code of Conduct.
  • The care and maintenance of any boots and/or equipment issued is the responsibility of the young person.
