Advanced Learner Loans
Government backed student loans for people aged 19 and over, studying Level 3 to Level 6 courses from 1st September 2016.
The Government has changed the funding for learners aged 19 and over who want to study courses such as A Levels, Access to HE Diplomas, other Diplomas and Certificates.
Learners aged 19 and over will now have the option to either:
pay the course fees themselves
have an employer or sponsor pay the course fees for them
apply for an Advanced Learner Loan
Advanced Learner Loans are similar to Higher Education loans, helping students pay for Further Education courses rather than having to pay upfront. Students will only need to start to repay the loan once they have finished their course and are earning over £21,000 a year.
Existing entitlements to study for a first Level 2 and 3 qualification remain so if you are between 19 and 23 and have not achieved a previous Level 2 or 3 qualification you will not need to pay.
If you pay for an Access to HE course using an Advanced Learner Loan and then go on to complete a Higher Education course, the Student Loans Company will write off the balance on the Advanced Learner Loan.
