Students given a fresh voice

Students at Stroud College are being given a fresh voice, thanks to a new initiative led by student liaison officer, Amy Humphries.

Amy explained: “One of the new ways we now encourage students to share their ideas and suggestions is through a curriculum forum. Once a term, elected course reps are invited to a curriculum forum to represent the views of their class and to work together to improve the student experience at the college. From each curriculum forum, three or four reps are put forward to attend Student Council meetings. This is a cross-college student group who work together to support students and bring about positive changes within the college and local community.”

“So far, so good!  There’s a real sense of energy and interest from students that they are able to take specific concerns to curriculum forum where any problems will be discussed and dealt with, or they can bring wider issues to student council where their voice will be heard. It’s relevant at every stage and, just as importantly, communication is two-way.”

She added: “We will be setting up and maintaining a ‘you said, we did’ noticeboard in the coming months.”
