Keith Allen, star of BBC"s Robin Hood, kindly visited Stroud College on Friday 5th March to publicise Stroud College"s March Eco Month.
Keith kindly participated by turning down the colleges central heating by 2 degrees. Staff and students were then encouraged to wrap up warm and wear a bad jumper to college to compensate! This reduction in central heating will greatly aid Stroud College in reducing their carbon footprint and emissions.
This is one of the many events being held during March including college staff making carbon reduction pledges, talks, films and displays highlighting environmental issues, a clothes swap, a meat free Monday and the building of a giant sculpture out of recycled materials by college art students.
As well as boosting our own environmental awareness the college is now offering a wide range of sustainability courses:
GIY - Green it Yourself Aimed at the environmentally aware consumer this course will include practical DIY (Do it Yourself) skills required to lower the carbon footprint of your home and reduce your energy bills. The "GIY" course will begin with a domestic audit session which will enable learners to target the most cost effective improvements for their own home. Subjects covered will include insulation, water usage, renewable energy and sustainable living. This evening class will start in April, runs for 10 weeks and costs only £101.
We also offer courses to train installers of Domestic solar hot water systems and offer Certificates in Energy Efficiency in Domestic Heating.
Keep checking the website for more environmental news during eco month!
