The new term saw eighteen sports students taking part in our first Industry Week and getting the inside track on careers in the sports and leisure sector.
The week included trips to see Sandford Parks Lido (a unique open-air pool which has heritage status as well as being used as an Olympic training site), Fitness First in Cheltenham (part of largest gym operation in the world), Gloucester Rugby Club and DAs Free Weights Gym (an independent gym set up by two young entrepreneurs). Filton’s director of sports academy, Simon Panes, also gave a presentation to our students to describe the development and growth of Bristol Academy of Sport.
Phill Merrick, who leads sports at Stroud College, said: “It’s been fantastic for students to gain an understanding of different job roles and career paths they can take within sport, besides playing and coaching. My thanks to all the organisations involved for making Industry Week such a worthwhile experience.”
