This course is for anyone who may need to support someone with a learning disability who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Please note we do not recommend this course for anyone who has recently suffered a bereavement.
What will I learn?
AIMTo enable you to:
- Support people with learning disabilities with life-threatening illnesses, their families, and their peers
- Work collaboratively with other Health and Social Care professionals
- Minimise stress, pain and distress for all involved
- Carry out planning that will help to achieve the best possible outcomes for everyone
The Course covers:
- Lessons learnt from research into supporting people with learning disabilities who are dying
- Recognising and minimising the stress affecting everyone"s communication and behaviour
- Person-centred End of Life planning
- Roles, expectations, policies and procedures
- Barriers of achieving best practice in this area and how to overcome them
- Helpful resources
- Accessing further information or support
