How will I know how I am doing?

There is an assessment at the end of the module, this takes place when both yourself and the trainer feel you have acquired the necessary knowledge, and is arranged at a time suitable to you.

How will the course be delivered?

The course will be delivered in one of Stroud College’s Learn IT Centres, which are situated in Stroud and Dursley. You will be provided with a learning manual to work through at your own pace. There will be experienced trainers always on hand to assist you if you have any difficulties.

What will I learn?

1. To demonstrate the ability to use web browser and e-mail applications on a personal computer.
2. To understand and accomplish basic operations associated with searching and navigating web sites to access information.
3. To create and send e-mails and to manage personal contact groups and message folders.
4. Understand what the internet is and common terms associated with it.
5. Be aware of some security considerations when using the internet.
6. Accomplish everyday web browsing tasks including changing browser settings.
7. Compete and submit web-based forms and search for information.
8. Save web pages and download files from the web. Copy web content into a document.
9. Understand what email is and know some advantages and disadvantages of its use.
10. Be aware of ways to enhance productivity when working with email software.
11. Oganise and manage emails

Do I receive a qualification?

If you successfully complete this unit you will receive the BCS ECDL Essentials Single Unit Certificate (Level 1)

What's next?

This unit naturally contributes towards the whole ECDL Essentials qualification, which can achieved by completing the two Security and Fundamentals units.
