This qualification is a natural progression for students who have just completed the ICT Skills for Life course, therefore it is designed for students who already have some knowledge of using a computer.

How will I know how I am doing?

There is a 2½ hour assessment at the end of each module, this takes place when both yourself and the Learning Co-ordinator feel you have acquired the necessary knowledge, and are arranged at a time suitable to you. Practice assessments are undertaken prior to the formal assessment.

How will the course be delivered?

The course will be delivered in one of Stroud College’s Learn IT Centres, which are situated in Stroud and Dursley. You will be provided with a learning manual to work through at your own pace. There will be experienced Learning Co-ordinators always on hand to assist you if you have any difficulties.

What will I learn?

Modules include and are selected from the following:

1. File Management and e-Document Production (Windows Explorer and Word processing) Mandatory Unit
2. Creating Spreadsheets and Graphs (Excel)
3. Database Manipulation (Access)
4. e-Publication Creation (Desktop Publishing using Publisher)
5. Creating an e-Presentation (Powerpoint)
6. e-Image Creation (Computer art using Publisher)
7. Web Page Creation (Web design using FrontPage)
8. Internet and Email (Using Outlook) (Stroud Centre only)

Do I receive a qualification?

When you successfully complete the modules that you have chosen, you will gain an OCR ITQ Award of Certificate.

What's next?

The course progresses naturally to OCR Level 2 Cert in IT Users (ITQ) or British Computer Society ECDL Essentials or Extra
