This course is intended for people who are interested in finding out what counselling is all about, possibly with a view to continuing on to vocational training to become a counsellor, or just people who would like to improve their own listening skills.
You will need to keep a weekly journal about your learning on the course. There will also be a fairly informal practical skills assessment by the tutor.

Lots! Useful skills like how to really listen to others, how and when to ask open or closed questions and how to put the core conditions into practice as well as more theoretical things such as what the counselling process involves and a little about different types of counselling. You may also learn a lot about yourself.
No, but on completion of this course you will be able to progress to the level 2 counselling course at SGS Stroud.
A4 sized paper and a pen, for taking notes.
You could progress to the Level Two course in Counselling Skills and from there to Level Three and then to the Diploma in Counselling.
